Latin Great Introduction of Abu Ma'shar from Arabic (1140)

Biography

From central Istria, most of which is now in Croatia. He worked in northern Spain on the Ebro and in southern France with his companion Robert of Ketton, the two translating directly from Arabic into Latin. He translated Abu Ma'shar's Great Introduction (1140) and Sahl ibn Bishr's astrological text; other versions are attributed to him, including al-Khwarizmi's tables and Ptolemy's Planisphere. At Peter the Venerable's request he compiled two texts on Islam. His share in the Latin Qur'an has no sound evidence.
