About the Site

About the Site

The site opened on Saturday, 20 Jumada al-Akhirah 1422 AH (8 September 2001). It has since passed through many stages of development, and through a number of difficulties for various reasons.

Awards and Recognition

Together with two other works, the site won the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States Award for 1432/1433 AH, a cycle the Bureau devoted to the Arabic language: its teaching and learning in general education. The Bureau announced the results on World Arabic Language Day, designated by the United Nations to celebrate the Arabic language, on 5 Safar 1434 AH (18 December 2012).

Why the Site Was Created

The motives behind this site go back a long way. They are what drove me to overcome many difficulties and to strive to do something I felt was a duty: to contribute to the service of Arabic.

Because of the greatness of Arabic and the high esteem in which I hold it, I have offered this modest effort to show the features of its radiant face, which its own people have obscured by failing to reveal its merits and explain its characteristics, while immersing themselves in matters of mere surface, many of which could be dispensed with.

Aims of the Site

I wanted this site to be one of the voices of Arabic: one that discusses its pressing questions freely and opens the field for others to put forward their views, in the hope of helping to raise the standing of this great language and to instil pride in it among its people, so that they strive to spread it and elevate it.

Fields and Specialisations

Because the field is so wide, you, dear visitor, will find here questions that are linked by their importance; they do not cover every area of the language, and importance is the criterion for presenting them here.

A careful reader of this site will nonetheless notice its shortcomings, for the breadth of the field is greater than this modest effort. Perhaps the visitor's suggestions, contributions and efforts will help to fill the gap.

And because scholarly research has a decisive effect on success or failure in presenting and teaching this language, I have not neglected its questions and problems, and have given it a part of the site of its own.

Hopes for the Future

We hope the site will grow to include other aspects of Arabic that deserve to be presented, and I ask you, dear visitor, to contribute to it through suggestions, criticism or participation.

I should note that the site may seem specialised and aimed at a particular group, namely professors and specialists of Arabic, paying little attention to those below them among lovers, amateurs and students of the language. The hope is that it will develop to meet every interest.

Vision:

To be a trusted reference in the Arabic sciences, covering all the specialisations and questions of Arabic.

Mission:

To serve Arabic and to strengthen its presence on the World Wide Web.
