Wadghiri (1/363) finds carumfel and charumfel in French at the start of the 19th century, and carunsel in Diderot's Encyclopédie in 1757; other forms are qorenfel and qoronfl, "the name of an aromatic plant".
Wiktionary: Maltese qronfol is inherited from Arabic qaranful and means both clove and carnation (Dianthus); compare Sicilian garòfalu.
