Biography

Born in Nishapur in 350/961. His Yatimat al-dahr anthologised the poetry and prose of his contemporaries, and his Fiqh al-lugha wa-sirr al-ʿarabiyya arranged Arabic vocabulary by meaning; he was one of the most prolific Arabic men of letters of his age.
