Biography

Born in the village of al-Bayda near Shiraz in Fars, he moved to Basra and studied with al-Khalil ibn Ahmad. His al-Kitab gathered the rules of Arabic syntax and morphology in a way no one had done before, and it became the foundation every later grammarian built on.
