What they said about Arabic From the author's own Arabic

Writing in al-Basaʾir in 1948, under the title “Arabic in Algeria: a free noblewoman with no rival wife”:

“Arabic in Algeria is neither a stranger nor an intruder; it is in its own home, among its guardians and supporters – its roots reaching deep into the past, its ties fast to the present, its branches stretching far into the future.”

Muhammad al-Bashir al-Ibrahimi
1889–1965
President of the Association of Algerian Muslim ʿUlama after Ibn Badis, member of the Arabic academies of Cairo, Damascus and Baghdad.
