Biography

An Albanian born at Srbica near Kičevo, he learned Arabic from his father as a child and graduated in Oriental studies at Belgrade (1951). His thesis (1960) was on the oldest waqf deeds written in Arabic. In Cairo (1967) he worked on a Serbo-Croatian–Arabic dictionary, published at Sarajevo (1988), and he was elected to the Arabic Language Academy of Cairo. He founded the Oriental department at Pristina (1973). Most of his work was in Ottoman Turkish.
