Biography

Born near Zürich, he studied there and at Halle under Heinrich Thorbecke. He edited Zuhayr's Muʿallaqa with the commentary of Abu Jaʿfar al-Nahhas (1905). He was professor of Old Testament and Oriental languages at Zürich from 1905, Arabic being his chief interest.
