Biography

He taught at Königsberg and Strasbourg, then at Basel. He edited the dīwān of Hatim al-Tai (Leipzig, 1897), gathered the poems of Umayya ibn Abi al-Salt scattered through the books of adab, genuine and spurious (Leipzig, 1911), wrote on the dīwān of Hassan ibn Thabit and on the Arabic dialects, and published the Syriac Kalila and Dimna with a German translation (Berlin, 1911).
