Biography

Of Turkic origin, he was born in Farab – Otrar, in today's Kazakhstan – and studied with his maternal uncle Ishaq al-Farabi. His Taj al-lugha wa-sihah al-ʿarabiyya, broke new ground in how a dictionary is arranged and admitted only sound, eloquent usage; it became one of the most famous Arabic dictionaries.
