Biography

Born and raised in the town of Lamu on the Kenyan coast in a family of Hadrami origin, he settled in Zanzibar late in life and died there. He wrote up his journey to Hadramawt in Arabic in a printed book, Rihlat al-ashwaq al-qawiyya ila mawatin al-sada al-ʿAlawiyya, an example of Arabic travel writing produced on the East African coast.
