Biography

A Nigerian scholar whose nisba ties him to Ilorin, he ran the Arabic and Islamic training centre at Agege (Lagos) for more than twenty-five years, teaching about a thousand students, and wrote school textbooks for the middle and secondary levels as well as a book on the system of Arabic education (Nizam al-taʿlim al-ʿarabi). He wrote a polished classical Arabic, compiled and edited al-Fawakih al-saqita, an anthology of poems current among Nigerian scholars, and edited the didactic poem Sarf al-ʿinan ʿan tariq al-niran ila tariq al-jinan by a poet of Katsina.
