Biography

He was born in Gobir in Hausaland (northern Nigeria today); accounts differ on the place and year. In grammar he versified al-Suyuti's Jamʿ al-jawamiʿ and its commentary Hamʿ al-hawamiʿ as al-Bahr al-muhit, a poem of more than four thousand lines, and wrote Lumaʿ al-barq fima li-dhi tashabuh min al-farq; in morphology he composed the verse treatise al-Hisn al-rasin. He gathered his own Arabic poems in Tazyin al-waraqat bi-jamʿ ma li min abyat.
